Safety Scenarios
Read the following safety scenarios. Determine if the student or students are correctly following safety rules. If they are not, identify which rules they are breaking. Then, say what they should do to be safe
- Gina is thirsty. She rinses a beaker with water, refills it with water, and takes a drink.
- The printed directions in the lab procedure tell a student to pour a small amount of hydrochloric acid into a beaker. Jamal puts on safety goggles, an apron, and gloves before pouring the acid into the beaker.
- Anna is wearing a baggy sweatshirt. Before starting her lab, she rolls up her sleeves.
- While washing glassware, Mike splashes some water on Evan. To get even, Evan splashes him back.
- During an experiment, Lindsey decides to mix two chemicals that the lab procedure does not say to mix, because she is curious about what will happen.
- After working with chemicals, Steven removes his gloves, throws them away, and goes to lunch.
